Cricut Create a Critter Bunny Card

Taking inspiration from an adorable bunny gift bag, I decided to make a bunny themed birthday card for my BFF's daughter. I used the bunny cut from the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge and added a circle frame to it using the Design Studio. As usual, I stuck with a standard A2 card size, so the bunny itself is about 2". I couldn't figure out how to crop the bunny to fit the circle using the Design Studio so I just cut off the lower parts after I adhered it to the circle.

I'm baaaack!

I know it's been a long time since I last posted, way too long. The truth is I haven't been crafting as much as I used to. I've been lacking the inspiration, the time and the patience as of late. But I recently took advantage of an Amazon Prime Day deal and I bought a Cricut Expore Air 2. Since then, I have made a handful of crafts and I am eager to get back in to crafting regularly. Today I share the first card I made using my new machine. It's a birthday card in a standard A4 size. The squirrel is from the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge and it's about 3". I removed a couple of contours using the Design Space contours feature to hide the eyes, nose and mouth since I wanted to hand draw the face. The grosgrain ribbon is from a box of chocolates I was given by one of my students. I used foam dimensional dots from the dollar store to adhere the critter to the card front. Isn't this squirrel a cutie?

Cricut Create a Critter Dalmatian Invitations

My nephew's first birthday is coming up this summer and my sister-in-law asked if I could make some invitations for her. I had made Cricut Create a Critter Owl invitations for her first-born so of course I was going to make some for her second. She ended up choosing the dalmatian from the same cartridge and it was perfect since the fireman's hat has the number 1 on it. I wanted to try my hand at a shape card since I hadn't made one in a while.

Personalized Birthday Card with Monkey Magnet

This past weekend, my son celebrated his fifth birthday. He's such a little monkey that I decided to use the monkey cut (at 4") from the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge to make a personalized birthday card for my parents to give to him. I used three colours of card stock: dark brown for the base layer, a sort of tan colour for the second layer and a lighter brown for the topmost layer. I then rubbed some brown ink along the edges of the cut.

I used the Cricut Pooh marker font to cut out his name in dark brown and used a white shadow, cut at 1". 

I added some adhesive pearls and the vine cut from the Create a Critter cart. I only glued the ends of the vine because I wanted to be able to hang the monkey from it. The reason being is that I adhered a piece of magnet onto the back of the monkey so my son could have his own unique magnet. Isn't it cute?

Create a Critter Owl Invitations

My niece turned one last month and I was asked to make a few invitations for her birthday party. My brother and his wife narrowed it down to the owl on the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge. I kept it a standard A2 size card and used a corner punch to round the edges of the base and the mattes as well. I believe I cut the owl at 3.5" and used regular card stock as well as some Bazzil for the topmost layer to give some texture. The little flower was made using a punch I found at Michael's and the sentiment is computer generated. Both the owl and the sentiment were applied using dimensionals I found at the dollar store.

Personalized 1st Birthday Card, Safari Theme

 

At the request of a co-worker, I created a safari-themed birthday card for a little boy who was turning one. I wasn't quite sure of the layout but I definitely knew that I wanted to use the Cricut Create-A-Critter cartridge since you really can't go wrong with any of those critters. I decided to do a Google image search for inspiration and found this cute safari invitation on Handmade by Odette as well as this safari-themed card on Wickedly Wonderful. Aren't they adorable? Anywho, this is my take with a personalized twist. The palm tree, sun, monkey and giraffe are from the Cricut Create-a-Critter cartridge. The grass cuts are both from the Cricut Paper Doll Dressup cartridge and I also used the Cricut Pooh Font Set. I inked the edges with brown ink for the animals and sun, and used both green and brown ink along the edges of the palm leaves and grass. I gently bent the palm leaves to make them pop out a little and added a random button for the coconut. I also used some pop dots to add some dimension.

Personalized Baby Girl Birthday Card

One of my colleagues had a baby girl last year and she will be turning one next week. Since she asked me to put together a personalized card to commemorate her first birthday, I decided to use the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge and went with the hippo cut. I made a large card so I cut the hippo at 3" and used the shadow feature as well. I embossed the white layer using the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder and adhered the hippo onto the shadow using pop dots from the dollar store. The flowers are also from the Create a Critter cartridge and can be found on the hedgehog page. The sizes range from 2" to .5" in half inch increments. I inked the edges using Studio G ink and added some pink adhesive jewels I bought at the dollar store. The letters and number are from the Cricut Storybook cartridge cut at 1.5" using the Shorty/Holes feature. The ribbon was purchased at Michaels as were the flower brads. Pink and brown combos have become a favourite of mine lately and I like how the one kind of blends in with the flowers so as not to detract from the other focal points.

Teacher Thank You Card - Merci

Here's a quick post to share a card I made for a co-worker. She has twins who just finished JK so I decided to add two worms to represent them. They are from the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge. The apple is from Cricut Plantin Schoolbook using the roly poly feature. The word 'merci' is from the Cricut Beyond Birthdays cartridge and was also appropriate since her children attend a French Immersion school. I chose a black background to sort of represent a blackboard. For a final touch, I added some black Stickles to the worms' eyes and antennae. I placed it on the console table to dry and told my husband it was still wet. Two minutes later, my husband put his cell phone right on top. (Picture me in utter disbelief.) I was just about to leave for work until I saw the disaster. At least he took the kids to daycare for me while I redid one of the worms.

Create a Critter Panda Card

Here's another card that I had made a while back so I don't quite recall the sizes. I used the Panda from the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge and I assume it was cut at about 3.5" since the card is a standard 5.5" by 4.25". I found the ribbon at Michael's and the sentiment is from a Stampin' Up set. I used dimensional foam dots from the dollar store to adhere the panda to the card. Overall, I love all the bright colours.

T-Rex Birthday Card

 

Last night, I was clearing out some photos from my picture file folder and came across some photos of cards that I had made months ago. I will be posting more pictures of them but unfortunately can't recall the exact sizes of the cuts. The size of the cards themselves are pretty standard at 5.5" by 4.25". Here's a really cute dinosaur card using the T-Rex from the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge. It's a little plain but I like the purples and the yellow together. They're... complementary.

Personalized Dinosaur Birthday Card

This week, my nephew is turning 7. His party was last week and, knowing he really likes dinosaurs, I decided to use the cute dinosaur cut on the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge. There are four layers on the dinosaur alone. I also used the Cricut Pooh Font to cut out his name. I hear he really liked it. Yay!

Pink and Blue Colour Challenge - My Pink Stamper

The wonderful and uber-talented Robyn over at The Pink Stamper is running a series of giveaways on her blog as part of her 12 Days of Christmas event. For the challenge on day 2, you need to create something that has two shades of pink, two shades of blue and black. Seeing as we're celebrating my sister-in-law's birthday, my daughter wanted to create a critter in pink for her aunt's birthday card. I went with the bird from the crocodile cut (using the shift function). I cut it at 3 1/2" and inked the edges. The design paper is from the DCWV Glitter Sweet pack, the ribbon is a stitched grosgrain by Doodlebug Design and the bling is from the dollar store. I also used a Glue Dot to adhere the flower and foam dots from the dollar store to adhere the bird. The greeting is hand written.

Critter Bear Birthday Card - CPS 192 and Color Throwdown 117

Oh, Cricut! How I have missed thee! Let me count the ways...

I took the time out to finally create a card for my daughter's friend who celebrated his birthday last week. It was the perfect excuse to pull out my Create A Critter cartridge and dust off the old Cricut Expression. I took a picture of the materials and cutouts before assembly to give you an idea of what was involved. The sketch I used was CPS #192 and I used the colour scheme from Color Throwdown #117.  I used my stash of Stampin' Up craft card stock for the base (11" x 4.25" folded in half), cut out a red matte (5.25" x 4") and an orange matte (5" x 3"). I added some faux stitching on the orange paper to match the tangerine stitched grosgrain ribbon from Doodlebug Design. The ribbon was about 4" long with each end taped to the back of the orange paper before I used double-sided adhesive from the dollar store to attach the mattes to the card base.

The little critter was made using the Bear cut, with the back base cut out of black card stock at 3", layer 1 cut using a cream, and layer 2 cut using the same craft paper as the base. I used my Zig two-way glue pen to stick them altogether and foam pop dots (again from the dollar store) to stick it onto the card. The balloons were a feature on the same Create A Critter cartridge under the snake critter. They were cut out at 1" and applied using the foam dots. I added some dollar store bling and a "Happy Birthday" stamp in brown ink, both from Stampin' Up. So what do you think? Cute, eh?

 

CPS 185 - Pink Poodle Birthday Card

Here is a card I made for my friend's daughter who just turned one. I used this week's sketch from CPS.  It was the first time I used my newest Cricut cartridge called Create a Critter. Isn't it adorable? The poodle is cut at 3" and I added some stickles and adhesive foam to make the bows pop. The sentiment is a stamp by Stampin' Up. Here is a close-up of the cute little critter.
